Key Responsibilities
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements and dimensions.
- Framework Construction: Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood, steel, and other materials, including walls, floors, and roofs.
- Measurement and Layout: Measure and cut materials accurately to ensure precise fit and alignment.
- Use of Tools: Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, drills, nail guns, and levels.
- Collaboration: Work closely with electricians, plumbers, and other carpenters to coordinate efforts and ensure timely project completion.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect work for quality and compliance with building codes, making adjustments as needed.
- Job Site Maintenance: Keep the work area organized and clean, ensuring tools and materials are safely stored.
Tasks
- Prepare layouts in accordance with building codes using measuring tools.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and lightweight steel.
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, moldings, and hardware.
- Schedule and coordinate work on job sites.
- Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures in various settings, including mills, hospitals, and industrial plants.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in carpentry or construction is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in framing or carpentry is preferred.
- Skills: Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and building codes; excellent problem-solving skills; attention to detail.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
